Travel & Cultural Immersion
One of the most meaningful aspects of my journey has been the opportunity to experience different cultures firsthand. Living, studying, and working in diverse global spaces has not only shaped my worldview but has also deepened my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. Each place has left an imprint on me, teaching me lessons I plan to carry forward in my career and personal life.

01
United States
Having lived in the U.S. for the last four years, I have learned to navigate a culture vastly different from my home in Kenya. While I hold onto my deep-rooted sense of community, I have also come to understand the value of self-advocacy and personal branding in an individualistic society. As a Black woman, I often presented myself as approachable, laid-back, and humble—values that are important to me. However, I have also learned that confidence and actively claiming space are just as crucial. The ability to speak up, advocate for my worth, and assert my contributions has opened doors not just for me, but for those who share my mindset. I plan to take this lesson forward, ensuring that I not only seize opportunities but create them for others as well.

Barcelona
In the Fall of 2024, I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain, where I not only took courses through CEA CAPA but also worked as an intern for Blindstairs, immersing myself in both academic and professional life. One of the biggest takeaways from my time in Spain was the importance of balance—between work, rest, and community. Unlike the fast-paced, work-driven culture I had previously been exposed to, Spain taught me that true impact comes from sustainability, both in work and in life. I saw firsthand how strong community ties contribute to well-being, especially in a country with an aging population that relies heavily on familial and social networks. This experience reinforced the idea that success isn’t just about working hard, but also about investing in relationships and ensuring longevity in whatever I do.

London
During Winter Term in 2023, I participated in Music in London, a cultural immersion program that explored the evolution of London’s music scene and its connection to history, identity, and social change. Having played the piano for over 15 years, this was a deeply personal experience that allowed me to see how music shapes and preserves cultural narratives. Beyond the music itself, I was struck by London’s commitment to archiving its history—whether through museums, public records, architecture, or even the city’s street art. I learned that for a society to build a meaningful future, it must understand and preserve its past. This idea resonates deeply with me, and I plan to apply this perspective to my work—whether in leadership, HR, or community-building—by ensuring that people’s stories and contributions are recognized and valued.

Johannesburg
Beyond completing my A-Levels in Johannesburg, I returned as an intern for the Global Scholars Program, a month-long immersive experience for students aged 13-17 to explore entrepreneurship and cultural exchange. As an Education Advisor, I developed curriculum, mentored students, and chaperoned trips that delved into South Africa’s rich history. Living and working in South Africa deepened my understanding of community and liberation. The country’s ongoing fight for equality and empowerment, especially given how recent apartheid was, has shaped my perspective on how historical contexts influence present realities. I hope to carry forward this drive for equity and inclusion in every space I enter, ensuring that the work I do helps build more inclusive and just systems.
